Kent College Canterbury

HMODWith so many pupils in the school, it is inevitable that the skills of our resident medical staff will be regularly called into action. Whether the problem is cuts and bruises from the rugby field, a simple sore throat or occasionally something more serious, it is comforting for parents to know that trained medical attention is immediately available.

The Medical Centre is on the ground floor at a convenient location at the heart of the school and comprises several attractive bedrooms and a well-equipped surgery. A qualified nurse is always on duty and pupils have access to the Medical Centre 24 hours a day.

If a pupil is not well enough to attend school they will be cared for within the Medical Centre.

The School Medical Officer holds a surgery twice a week and is available whenever necessary. The staff are always happy to discuss with parents any health problems, management of diabetes, asthma, special diets or treatments.

On entry to the school, pupils have a medical examination and thereafter their rate of growth is monitored twice a year. Routine National Health Service immunisation programmes are carried out, as well as those required by pupils travelling abroad.

Parents are normally expected to arrange routine dental checks and subsequent treatment during the school holidays. If this is not possible, arrangements can be made for pupils to be seen by a dentist twice a year. However, emergency treatment is available to all pupils. Referrals to an orthodontist can be arranged if necessary.
