Kent College Canterbury

HMOD Where excellence is a habit

  • Nursery, Infant and Junior departments all on the same beautiful site
  • Children may start at our Nursery during the term of their third birthday, or join the school at any age between four and ten
  • As well as day pupils, we welcome full, weekly or occasional boarders from the age of seven upwards

Kent College Junior School is situated in delightful grounds on the edge of the historic city of Canterbury. The main school building was once the home of the Victorian artist Thomas Sidney Cooper R.A. and he lived here for 50 years, spending much time and money developing the glorious gardens in which our children now play. We have a small but very comfortable Boarding House within the main building. With London under an hour away, our boarding package can include accompanied travel to and from St Pancras International at the weekends, allowing a happy balance for busy families living in London.

Children may start full time in our Nursery during the term of their third birthday, although many parents choose to begin with just a couple of mornings a week. Children then progress through the Infant (5-7 years) and Junior (7-11 years) departments. Our Senior School, to which most of our pupils transfer at age 11, is just over a mile away.

What we offer
Kent College Junior School has an excellent academic record, with consistently strong results in the Kent Test. Many of our pupils win scholarships for academic, artistic, musical or sporting excellence. We are also able to offer specialist teaching to children with dyslexia. Our cultural and sporting traditions are strong and we offer a huge range of clubs and activities, at lunchtime, after school and, for those who want it, on Saturday mornings. These are complemented by a variety of visits and excursions, both locally and abroad.

Above all we are a caring and welcoming school with an outstanding pastoral reputation that derives from our Christian heritage. Our children are challenged and stretched, but always encouraged and supported, as identified in our ISI inspection report.

Come and see for yourself
Mr Andy Carter, our Headmaster, will be delighted to meet with you, show you around the school, and explain our educational philosophy. We are sure you will come away convinced that Kent College Junior School is the ideal starting point for your child's educational journey.
