Kent College Canterbury

A home from home

Kent College Junior School has its own small but comfortable boarding house within the main school building and welcomes boarders from the age of seven upwards. Few people would deny that for a child of primary school age  – and indeed for their parents  – boarding can be quite a daunting prospect. That’s why choosing Kent College as a child’s first boarding school makes so much sense. There are just so many advantages, in the boarding house and within the wider school.

The caring atmosphere derives from the strong pastoral tradition of Kent College, a Methodist foundation that dates back well over 100 years. The Junior Boarding has space for up to  20 children and this gives it a unique family feeling; a true home from home.Every child receives individual care and attention from the House Parent and boarding staff who are trained and experienced carers, the House Parent having their family home inside the boarding house. An  ‘Open Door’ policy means that they are always on hand to resolve any problems in a loving and supportive way.

Being a Junior Boarding house, the school’s philosophy and policies are geared to this younger age group. This enhances the relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. The comfortable and well furnished bedrooms are decorated to feel like home from homes, and the children also enjoy two fun-filled common room areas.

Boarding arrangements are highly flexible, to meet individual family requirements. We can even offer accompanied train travel to and from London for weekly boarders. The School welcomes full and weekly boarders, and will always try to accommodate requests for short term or occasional boarding as the need arises. Boarding bursaries are available: please contact the School Bursar for further information.

All boarders have Internet, e-mail and telephone access. Most pupils go on to Kent College Senior School, into an environment they already understand and enjoy.

All in all, parents can send their children into boarding at Kent College with total confidence about their happiness and welfare. The outstanding care and provision for our boarding community was recognised in an ISI Inspection report in 2013.
